Short answer

A KOC campaign works with credible customers or smaller local creators whose firsthand experience can help a specific audience understand and trust a business, with the commercial relationship clearly disclosed.

01

What is a KOC campaign?

KOC means key opinion consumer: a customer-like creator selected for relevance, firsthand experience and trust within a specific community.

The term is often used in Chinese social media for creators whose value comes from useful, experience-led recommendations rather than celebrity status. In practice, the boundary between a KOC and a micro-influencer is not fixed. The important commercial question is whether the person can create truthful content that helps the right local customer make a decision.

A KOC campaign may involve a restaurant visit, service walkthrough, local guide, product experience or educational collaboration. The creator must be able to experience the offer honestly, understand the required claims and disclose the relationship clearly. A high follower count cannot replace category relevance or credible content.

Black Mango uses the term KOC because it describes a useful role in Chinese-language discovery. We do not present it as a guaranteed performance formula or claim that every small creator is automatically trusted.

02

What does Black Mango manage in a local creator campaign?

The starting scope covers campaign planning and coordination from the brief through publication checks and a concise results review.

The exact scope is confirmed in writing because campaigns vary. Some businesses already have a creator in mind and need a responsible brief. Others need research, outreach and scheduling. Regulated services may require additional claim review or may not be appropriate for an experience-led endorsement at all.

Black Mango coordinates the campaign; the creator remains responsible for their own genuine experience and voice. We do not ask creators to invent an outcome, hide compensation or publish a review for something they did not experience.

  • Campaign goal, audience, channel and content-angle definition
  • Creator criteria and a practical shortlist based on fit rather than follower count alone
  • Outreach, availability checks and coordination of agreed deliverables
  • A written brief covering factual boundaries, required disclosure and approval points
  • Production logistics for the agreed visit, service or product experience
  • Publication checks, live-link record and an end-of-campaign summary

03

How much does a KOC or micro-influencer campaign cost in Vancouver?

Black Mango Social's one-time local creator campaign coordination starts at CA$600, before creator compensation and other approved external costs.

The CA$600 starting price covers a defined coordination scope. The final management quote depends on the number of creators, channels, outreach volume, production requirements, approval complexity and reporting needs.

Creator compensation is separate because rates vary by deliverable, audience, usage rights, exclusivity, production effort and the value of the experience or product supplied. Travel, paid amplification, venue costs, shipping, licensed music and additional photography or video may also be separate.

The written campaign budget shows Black Mango's management fee and each approved external cost before commitments are made. If the campaign is unlikely to be credible or the budget cannot support an appropriate creator, we will recommend a different use of the money.

04

How do you choose local creators?

Selection begins with audience and credibility, then considers content quality, local relevance, disclosure history and practical fit.

A creator with a smaller but locally relevant audience may be more useful than a larger account whose followers are elsewhere or whose content has no connection to the category. We review the visible audience context, previous brand work, comment quality, production style and whether the creator can explain the offer without making unsupported claims.

For Chinese-language campaigns, language fluency is only one factor. The creator also needs to understand the local decision, use natural platform conventions and give Metro Vancouver customers enough context to act. A post that could apply to any city is less useful than one that explains location, booking, price range or what to expect.

The client approves the creator and commercial terms before commitment. Availability, audience data and rate information are creator-supplied and can change; we do not present estimates as audited facts.

05

How are sponsored creator relationships disclosed in Canada?

A material connection between the creator and business should be disclosed clearly, prominently and in a way the audience can understand on each relevant platform.

The Competition Bureau of Canada states that the Competition Act applies to influencer marketing and that material connections should be disclosed. A connection can include payment, commissions, free products or services, discounts, trips, tickets, or a personal or family relationship.

The Bureau's guidance says disclosure should be visible, clear and contextually appropriate rather than buried in a long caption, hashtag group or profile bio. It also notes that tagging a brand or sharing a discount code is unlikely to be enough on its own.

Black Mango includes disclosure requirements in the brief and checks the agreed publication. This is a campaign practice, not legal advice. Businesses in regulated categories should have their own professional or regulatory review when the claims or relationship require it.

06

How should a local creator campaign be measured?

Measurement should match the campaign's job: credible content, relevant attention, useful actions or qualified inquiries, not one universal vanity metric.

Before outreach, the brief identifies the observable signals available from the channel and business. These may include completed deliverables, relevant views, saves, shares, profile visits, booking-link activity, offer-code use or inquiries that mention the creator. Not every platform exposes every measure, and attribution is rarely perfect.

The final summary records what was published, the visible results available at the review date and what the business learned. It does not convert impressions into invented revenue or present a one-time campaign as proof of long-term market share.

A campaign is a poor fit when the business needs guaranteed sales, cannot provide a genuine experience, will not disclose the relationship or expects the creator to make claims the business cannot substantiate.

Frequently asked questions

Direct answers, without the sales fog.

01 What is the difference between a KOC and an influencer?

KOC usually describes a customer-like creator valued for relevant firsthand experience, while influencer is a broader term. The labels overlap; audience fit, truthfulness and useful content matter more than the title.

02 How much does a KOC campaign cost in Vancouver?

Black Mango's one-time campaign coordination starts at CA$600. Creator compensation, products or services, travel, media, additional production and licensing are separate unless the written proposal says otherwise.

03 Do you guarantee sales or a number of views?

No. Black Mango commits to the agreed planning and coordination work but does not guarantee views, engagement, inquiries or sales. Creator availability and platform distribution can change.

04 Can you find Chinese-speaking creators in Metro Vancouver?

Yes, when the campaign and budget support an appropriate search. The client approves the creator and commercial terms before commitment, and Black Mango does not represent creator-supplied audience data as independently audited.

05 Does the creator have to disclose that the content is sponsored?

Material connections should be disclosed clearly and prominently. Competition Bureau guidance applies to payments and other benefits such as free products, services or discounts. Regulated businesses should obtain their own category-specific review.

06 Can we reuse the creator's content on our own channels or in ads?

Only when the agreed usage rights allow it. Organic reposting, paid advertising, editing, duration and exclusivity should be written into the creator agreement and may affect the fee.
