Xiaohongshu business accounts in Canada: what is actually possible?
A current, cautious guide to account types, overseas eligibility, documents, fees and regulated-category rules for Canadian businesses.
Short answer
A Canadian company can build a Xiaohongshu presence, but direct verified professional-account eligibility is not automatic and must be checked against the platform's current open-region and industry rules.

Can a non-Chinese business open a Xiaohongshu account?
A non-Chinese business can operate a Xiaohongshu account, but a standard account and a verified professional business account are different products.
A standard account can publish content and build an audience. A verified professional account is designed for businesses and can display a business identity and unlock platform-dependent commercial functions. Verification is a legal-entity review, not simply a profile setting.
For an overseas company, the decisive questions are where the entity is registered, whether that region is currently open, whether the industry is accepted and whether the company holds the required documents itself. The account should be created with a long-term ownership and access plan before content production begins.
02
Can a Canadian company verify a Xiaohongshu business account?
A Canadian company should not assume direct verification is available because Xiaohongshu limits overseas professional accounts to currently open regions and industries.
Xiaohongshu's official professional-account rules say overseas and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan entities may apply only where the region and industry are open. The current rules name supported examples such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, but do not state that every Canadian corporation can be verified directly.
Platform availability changes. The responsible process is to check the live professional-account portal with the exact entity, country and category before quoting a verification timeline. If a direct route is unavailable, an agency should explain the limits of any alternative instead of presenting a workaround as official verification.
This page is operational guidance, not a guarantee of platform approval. Xiaohongshu makes the final eligibility and review decision.

What is the difference between a standard account and a professional account?
A standard account is a publishing identity, while a professional account adds a reviewed business or professional identity and category-dependent tools.
| Account path | What it can establish | Main limitation | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard account | A consistent publishing presence and public profile | Does not by itself prove a verified legal business identity | Market testing and useful organic content |
| Verified professional account | Reviewed business identity and eligible professional features | Country, entity, documents and industry must pass current rules | Long-term official business operation |
| Store or paid advertising tools | Additional commerce or media functions | Separate eligibility, deposits, category and advertising rules may apply | Businesses with a confirmed platform commerce plan |
04
What documents does an overseas business need?
An overseas business generally needs current company registration records, any applicable commercial registration and its own industry licences.
The official rules state that industry credentials must belong to the applying entity. A parent company, partner or unrelated licence cannot simply be borrowed to qualify a different business.
Document requirements can be more demanding for healthcare, finance, education, legal, travel and other strongly regulated categories. Clear scans, matching legal names, valid dates and consistent business activity are basic review requirements.
- A valid company registration document issued in the entity's jurisdiction
- A commercial or business registration document where the jurisdiction uses one
- Industry operating licences or permits where the selected category requires them
- A Chinese or bilingual translation for non-Chinese documents
- A translation bearing the required company or translation-provider certification
- Brand, trademark, website or physical-location evidence when the requested account name depends on it
- A completed application letter or authorization document in the platform's required format

05
How do I verify a Xiaohongshu business account from Canada?
Verification begins with a live eligibility check, followed by document preparation, category selection, fee payment and platform review.

Use access credentials the business can retain and document who controls recovery methods.
- 02

Confirm that the registration jurisdiction and intended category appear in the current portal.
- 03
Select the exact industry
The category must match the company's legal business activity and any required licences.

A verified business identity may require annual review and updated documents.
06
How much does Xiaohongshu business verification cost?
Xiaohongshu's current official rule page lists a 600 CNY fee for first-time enterprise professional-account verification and 600 CNY for annual review.
The platform fee is paid to the platform and is separate from agency assessment, translation, document preparation or account-management work. The official rule page also states that a normal review is generally three working days, with longer timing possible for complex qualifications, missing materials, holidays or additional checks.
Eligibility should be checked before treating the 600 CNY fee as the total cost. Translation, notarization, category licensing, cross-border payment handling or professional advice may be required in some situations. Those expenses should be quoted separately and never disguised as a platform charge.
07
Which industries need extra care?
Healthcare, dental, legal, financial, education, travel, real estate and other regulated categories can require additional qualifications or face restricted claims and account options.
Xiaohongshu's current rules specifically place oral medical institutions and other healthcare businesses within regulated category tables. Eligibility can depend on the precise institution type and licences held by the applying entity.
Platform eligibility does not replace Canadian or British Columbia advertising obligations. The content itself must still be accurate, supportable and reviewed by the appropriate professional where required.
A category review should happen before the account is named and before posts are written. Changing the category later can trigger a new review or make previously planned content unusable.
08
What can the account name and profile include?
A verified account name must be supported by the entity's legal name, brand rights, website rights or physical-business evidence and must not mislead users.
The official rules restrict names that imply the account is Xiaohongshu itself, misstate a professional identity or use unsupported business claims. Healthcare names may face additional restrictions on doctor-centred personal branding.
The same rule set states that profile information should not be used to place phone numbers, QR codes, websites, email addresses or other off-platform contact details where prohibited. A content and inquiry system should be designed around the functions the approved account actually has.
09
Who should own the account?
The client business should retain the account, recovery methods, original documents and a current access record.
- Use a business-controlled phone number or recovery method where the platform permits it
- Record the account identifier, registration date and verification status
- Keep copies of submitted documents and platform correspondence
- Give agencies role-appropriate access rather than transferring ownership
- Document what happens to access, content and message history when a contract ends
- Never allow an agency to hold the audience hostage behind private credentials
10
What should an agency do during verification?
An agency should assess eligibility, organize truthful documents, explain uncertainty and keep the business in control of the account.
Good verification support reduces avoidable errors. It does not create eligibility that the platform has not granted. An agency should never promise approval, sell access to another entity's licence or recommend hiding the true operator.
Black Mango Social's CA$300 verification-only service covers account-path review and preparation. Platform fees and exceptional translation, legal, licensing or notarization costs are separate. If direct verification is not currently practical, we explain that before recommending ongoing management.
